NVIDIA Unveils Generative AI for Digital Characters, New RTX Features, and More DLSS 3.5 Games at GDC

Generative AI can now create more realistic voices and facial expressions for digital characters than ever before.

At GDC 2024, NVIDIA revealed that top AI developers from various fields are using NVIDIA’s digital human technologies to craft lifelike avatars for commercial uses and engaging game characters. NVIDIA provides top-of-the-line tools for developers, including NVIDIA ACE for speech and animation, NVIDIA NeMo for language handling, and NVIDIA RTX for advanced ray-tracing capabilities.

New demos of digital human technology using NVIDIA ACE microservices were also featured at GDC.

Embracing ACE: Partners Turning Pixels into Lifelike Characters

Leading game and digital human developers are exploring how ACE and generative AI can enhance the way players interact with NPCs in games and apps.

New Demos Highlight NVIDIA’s Latest Digital Human Tech

NVIDIA teamed up with Inworld AI and UneeQ to showcase new demos that highlight the capabilities of their digital human technologies.

Inworld AI developed a demo called Covert Protocol with NVIDIA’s help.In this demo, players can step into the shoes of a private detective, which enriches their interactions with non-playable characters. It uses NVIDIA Riva for automatic speech recognition and NVIDIA Audio2Face for facial animations, combined with the Inworld Engine.

The Inworld Engine integrates systems for cognition, perception, and behavior, creating a detailed and immersive story set in visually stunning RTX-rendered environments.

UneeQ specializes in creating high-quality 3D avatars for various business uses. Their digital humans help brands interact with customers in real-time, boosting confidence in their purchases. UneeQ has incorporated NVIDIA Audio2Face and Synanim ML into their platform to make these avatars even more realistic, enhancing customer engagement and experience.

New NVIDIA RTX Tech for Lively Scenes

NVIDIA RTX transformed gaming a few years back by introducing rendering technologies that support real-time path tracing in games and apps.

The newest feature, Neural Radiance Cache (NRC), uses AI to manage indirect lighting in dynamic scenes. This means developers no longer need to pre-calculate lighting for objects and materials before rendering.

In addition, NVIDIA is launching Spatial Hash Radiance Cache (SHaRC). This new tool provides the same advantages as NRC but doesn’t rely on a neural network. It’s also compatible with any GPU that supports DirectX or Vulkan ray tracing.

RTX Is Here: More Games with RTX and DLSS 3.5

There are now over 500 games and applications using NVIDIA’s RTX technologies, which have transformed how people experience gaming with ray tracing, DLSS, and AI features.Exciting upcoming games will feature Complete ray tracing and DLSS 3.5 support.

NVIDIA’s latest advancement, DLSS 3.5, introduces DLSS Ray Reconstruction technology. This new feature replaces older ray tracing denoisers with a unified AI model that improves ray tracing in supported games, significantly boosting image quality.

Upcoming games like Black Myth: Wukong and NARAKA: BLADEPOINT will feature full ray tracing and DLSS 3.5. Portal with RTX is already available with DLSS 3.5, enhancing its ray tracing effects. Soon, DLSS 3.5 with Ray Reconstruction will be available in the NVIDIA RTX Remix Open Beta, allowing modders to add these advanced technologies to classic games.

Star Wars Outlaws will launch with DLSS 3 and ray-traced effects, while Diablo IV will get ray tracing and DLSS 3 support on March 26. The First Berserker: Khazan will include DLSS 3, and Sengoku Destiny has recently added support for DLSS 3.
